People Who Can Suck It: Katy Perry

Who Needs to Suck It: Katy Perry, inexplicably hot singer as of right now thanks to the success of "I Kissed a Girl"

Why She Needs to Suck It:
I don't have as much of a problem with Perry, per se, as I do with her song. "I Kissed a Girl" is inoffensive on its own, but its sudden and huge popularity pisses me off. I'm not going to call the song homophobic or anything like that because it's really not. Instead, I'm going to focus on my disgust that we have yet another medium playing into the straight male fantasy of two straight women getting so drunk that they let go of their inhibitions and make out with each other. Straight guys: this does not ever happen outside of The Real World or Girls Gone Wild so stop pretending that this song will change things. It makes me want to vomit thinking about the vapid, empty-headed party girls who think this song is clever and now will be using it as an excuse to make out with a random girl for fun one night at a kegger. There's also a hidden double standard that comes with the popularity of this song: if Justin Timberlake released a song called "I Kissed a Boy" and only changed the word "girl" to "boy," there's no way in hell it would ever be popular. The same people who loved "I Kissed a Girl" would be grossed out and some Baptist church would probably burn copies of the CD. So, Katy Perry, your second single better be one hell of a song if you're gonna convert me to your side after the poorly written piece of shit that is "I Kissed a Girl."

Katy Perry has a strong resemblance to Zooey Deschanel, which kind of creeps me out.

I don't really like "I Kissed a Girl" and the music video is rather lame. You're completely right about the Justin Timberlake part...

But I have to admit, I kind of love Katy Perry's "Hot N Cold." The lyrics make me smile.

God I hate that song, it's living up the the stupid pathetic fantasy that sexuality is nothing but a trend you ca change at will and exploit. It's also a rubbish song without the lyrics.

The only good songs on the album are "Waking Up In Vegas", "Hot N Cold" and "Self Inflicted". The rest is shit.

Have you heard "UR So Gay"? Cause with that "I Kissed a Girl" I do call her homophobic. Guys who wear makeup = gross, girls kissing girls = perfectly acceptable. As long as the guys getting turned on aren't the ones who do their hair and wear nice clothes.

Haha, I totally agree with you.

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one hating on her!

KC: I just listened to "Ur So Gay" and now I'm leaning towards the homophobic side. Everything you said is completely true. Plus, the song isn't even that clever or well-written. Now I hate this woman more than before.

I'm convinced she's a double agent. I mean, she was a CHRISTIAN ROCK singer before this? It's way too suspicious, and her songs are way too anti-homosexual for this not to be a coincidence.

I have an idea... Why don't you just get a life and stop picking apart a damn song. It's entertaining and its the artists point of view. Aren't there more important things in this world to worry about? Yes, I think so. Do me a favor and focus your mind on something that will help the world a little. This song wasn't made for political reasons... it was made to shake ur ass, rock out and have a good time. Thats what lifes about isn't it??
